Beatrice d'Este Duchess of Milan 14751497 eBook Julia Mary Cartwright Ady
This book certainly does not describe Ludovico Sforza the way the book " Dutchess Of Milan " describes him. Unfortunately," Dutchess Of Milan " is not available on Kindle. ( I will optimistically keep looking for it on Kindle ).
In " Dutchess Of Milan" Beatrice's husband is a tyrant who stole the duchy from his young nephew. He was horrible to his wife, Beatrice, and ruined Milan through his stupidity and arrogancy. ( inviting the King of France, and showing him all his treasure). He also flaunted more than one mistress in front of Beatrice.
I am inclined to believe " Dutchess Of Milan " more than this version, because this version does admit that he stole the duchy, had a mistress, and fawned over the French king.
I think this version of MIlanese history was much too " sugar-coated."

Beatrice d'Este Duchess of Milan 14751497 eBook Julia Mary Cartwright Ady Reviews
This was a difficult read for me. It was very dry. If I were more interested in history,I'm sure I would have absolutely loved it. I read about 17 percent before I gave up.
A real pleasure! A great book!
I could not put the book down. Very interesting. Fascinating. The Renaissance is alive before your own eyes.
Complete enjoyment!
I enjoyed reading this interesting account of a trip through Scandinavia into Russia. It was written in1902 so they got about on boats, trains and horse and carts. What an experience! Great descriptions of the land and people he encountered.
I thought the book was well-written. I appreciate biographies that don't stop when the main character dies but goes on to say what happened to their family. This book does that. What was frustrating was seeing notations where pictures should be but weren't transferred to this electronic book. Also, poems and some quotes from her day are included, but are in French or Spanish with no translation to English.
I very much like European history so this review comes from that bias. Well written, the subject of this book deals with a critical time in Milans history.
But the book really does concentrate on Beatrice, so be prepared to hear about her dresses, jewels, and how many ladies of the court travel with her on any given expedition. Still, an interesting subject fairly well presented.
I bought the version of this book when I was doing research on Leonardo da Vinci's time in Milan. It was a great buy! I have learned so much about the Duke and Duchess of Milan, and the architecture of Milan during the Renaissance. It was also fun to read about da Vinci's relationships with the Duke and Duchess.
If you are interested in Milan, da Vinci, and/or Duke Lodovico and his wife Beatrice, this is a great place to begin.
Although Beatrice was supposed to be the main figure in this book, I leaned more about her husband and the various artists and external things that were happening during that time than her. I am more than 50 percent into the book and I still don't have the clearest picture of her. It is full of historical content that I am unfamiliar with so it has been a hard read. However, I wanted to read something about the Renaissance period that was not about England. I will have to try more books about the period and place in order to fully understand Beatrice's life.
